Technical Teaching and Learning Advisor – Fixed Term contract for 12 months / Part time
At Unitec, we carefully curate educational opportunities for students to thrive in the applied learning space. Fostering creativity and facilitating each student’s journey combining artistic and practical sides of the self is the foundation of what we do.
As our Technical Teaching and Learning Advisor for Creative Industries, you’ll work with our students to assist them in bringing their creative projects to life. You’ll do this by making prototypes e.g. props, set design, 3D products as well as by helping students to install and de-install exhibitions – the scope is extensive. You’ll be on hand to provide technical assistance and supervisory support when your students are competent enough to do this work themselves. The key areas of competency will be in woodwork, metalwork and welding. It would be an added bonus if you have experience in 3D printing and screen/display technologies. You’ll be responsible for looking after workshops and machinery, training and supervising students in how to use them, whilst upholding our Health & Safety guidelines here at Unitec. You’ll be an innovative forward thinker that can assist with creative projects by thinking outside the square.
You may be working as a Teaching Technician or have prior similar experience in industry. Either way, you are a strong communicator with impeccable time management skills. We are looking for you to have exposure to a supervisory/mentor role, with advanced skills in a range of art and design materials and processes. An emphasis on the ability to expertly utilise a wide range of machinery and hand tools in many mediums is essential.
It would be desirable to have a high level of proficiency with image editing, CAD/CAM applications and design software; also running and maintain PC’s and LANs. Please refer to Position Description for more detailed information.
In exchange for your hard work
You’ll receive a competitive salary and benefits, discounted gym and on-site child care facility, free parking, and the chance to give back to tomorrow’s generation.
