Internationally acknowledged for their work with Oceanic creatives, cultural organisations, curators and educational providers, Tautai Contemporary Pacific Arts Trust exists to champion contemporary Pacific arts. As an organisation dedicated to the development and ongoing guidance of Pacific artists, the name Tautai draws on the Samoan word for navigator, reflecting the organisation’s desire to work alongside artists in enhancing their art practice and taking their ideas to the world.
Responsible for establishing a comprehensive media network, you will relish utilising your established industry knowledge to maintain and further enhance professional relationships with key media organisations. Adopting various strategies across mainstream, social and viral media and across niche art and cultural networks, you will develop and post content, measuring reach and fit to the organisational brief.
Promoting to a diverse audience, you will be working across many diverse groups within the arts and culture genre. Knowledge of Pacific values will be an asset and a desire to work within and for these communities is essential.
Skills, knowledge, and experience required for application are to include:
- 5+ years of experience as a communications specialist, journalist, or the like.
- A team player committed to organisational success.
- Skilled in the preparation of a range of materials; press releases, articles and online writing skills for social media posting and publicity for organisational events.
- Strong communication skills – able to “cold call” media and pitch story ideas.
- Excellent social media skills.
- Have experience with events, event sponsors and patrons.
- Strong relationship management skills.
- Excellent writing skills.
- A sense of humour and driven to make a real difference.
A formal journalism/communications qualification is desirable but not mandatory to application.
Developing and placing stories and content with media on a proactive and targeted basis, you will be well experienced in working to KPI’s within timeframes and to deadlines. Drafting short, practical communications plans with regular media updates and story ideas, you will have the skill to timetable and roll out of communications initiatives within a 12-month strategy plan. Adept with pitching story ideas and content across a range of media providers, picking up the phone and engaging with others will come naturally to you.
You will be able to accept, and seek direction, you will have the confidence to engage with a broad range of people, expertly adapting your style to meet you stakeholder and audience needs.
