St John prioritises providing the best possible customer experience to the many people across Aotearoa who use their services. Whilst they are likely known best for their easily recognisable ambulance service, they also deliver a strong role in meeting the broader health needs of New Zealand communities.
The new Community and Customer Council will be made up of volunteers and is a fantastic new initiative designed to represent the community in a way that prioritises the delivery of better services by having an innovative and people-centred approach to the provision of health services. As a member of the Council your input and ideas will help shape the future of St John and assist in the delivery of a quality service to support a healthier, more resilient Aotearoa New Zealand.
The focus of the Council is to provide a strong and viable voice for the community and consumers on healthcare planning, quality improvement and service delivery by:
- Ensuring patient, customer, supporter, and community voices are heard by St John
- Reviewing feedback data and recommending ideas and initiatives
- Adding value and diversity of thought by being an independent champion for customers and communities
Members of the Community and Customer Council will come from varied backgrounds and areas of interest that reflect our diverse community. These may include women’s health, men’s health, children’s health, Māori, Pacific and Asian peoples’ health, rural health, older persons health, disabilities, chronic conditions, mental health and addictions and LGBTQIA+ health.
St John would like to invite expressions of interest from people who:
- Have subject matter expertise or lived experience of a wide range of St John services
- Are passionate about consumers in the community having access to best possible health and wellbeing services
- Have strong community connections and a current network of contacts
- Can champion their community by providing a reliable source of knowledge
- Have proven credibility within the community
- Are innovative thinkers with the confidence to communicate ideas and initiatives
- Can analyse information from a broad range of perspectives
- Have excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills
- Have the ability to understand and follow Governance processes
This is a volunteer position – Council members will be reimbursed for travel and meeting expenses only. You would need to be available to volunteer approximately 60 hours over the year, which will include attendance at seven meetings as well as time in between for reading and meeting preparation.
