This role is based in the Ministry’s Learning Support team. Learning Support refers to the additional support provided to children and young people with a diverse range of needs.

About the role

As a Service Manager you will be responsible for leading a team of dedicated professionals (e.g. Education Psychologists, Speech Language Therapists) in the development, co-ordination and provision of services aimed at improving social and educational outcomes for children and young people with learning support needs.

As part of the Regional Management team you will also contribute to service development, collaborative problem solving and business planning across the Waikato region.

The person we need

To be successful you will need the following:

  • Leadership experience in education or social service delivery and an ability to coach, support and motivate others and create a positive working environment
  • Proven relationship skills and an ability to work with families, and with education and social services to develop and sustain win-win relationships
  • An ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment
  • Proven experience in achieving outcomes through developing, managing, delivering and monitoring quality services
  • Experience working with Māori whanau, Facility and Social Sector staff, to deliver on Ka Hikitia and to raise achievement and reduce disparity for this group
  • Experience in Māori medium education and fluency in Te Reo Māori would be highly desirable
  • A current driver’s licence
