The School of English and Media Studies at Massey University invites applications for an ongoing 0.8 FTE (approximately 30 hours per week) position as senior technician (Theatre and Media Production) at its Manawatū campus in Palmerston North.
We are looking for a dynamic, versatile and collaborative individual who will provide technical and other support for practice-based courses in digital media production and theatre, for performances and productions associated with these teaching areas, and for the development and production of multimedia content for the School’s distance teaching and publicity.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in the following areas:
- Operating lights and sound for student theatrical productions, including set-up and equalising of sound equipment, all aspects of lighting from rigging and focusing, through to programming and operation. Experience in theatre design and production will be an advantage
- Operating photography and video cameras, sound recording, lighting and post-production equipment for digital media production. A proven capacity in media production with skills in digital video production, digital photography, digital audio production and web design will be an advantage
- Developing and overseeing health and safety protocols, managing costume and props supplies, overseeing loans of media production equipment, maintaining theatre and media production equipment, maintaining video editing servers and archival media, and advising on future purchases
- Ability to support additional campus-based production activities, including the Arts on Wednesday programme
We are looking for somebody who is comfortable and compatible with working in an academic environment, and we may give preference to a candidate with a relevant tertiary qualification.
Availability to work on evenings and weekends is essential, especially at key points during each semester in support of student performance projects. Evidence of ongoing training in relevant technical areas will be an advantage.
