Job Description
Fixed Term position for 20 months.
We are seeking a person to fill a fixed term position which has a focus on teacher workforce effectiveness for Māori learners in New Zealand schools.
The position could be filled by a secondment.
Māori underachievement is a critical issue for the education system. There are two significant workforce aspects of dealing with this issue: promoting and facilitating the entry and progression of Māori to the teaching profession, and increasing the capability of all teachers throughout the teaching workforce to teach Māori learners effectively. Recruitment, training, support, professional development, and incentives and rewards in the teaching workforce, whether English-medium or Māori-medium are all relevant.
This position will provide leadership in this area, through using skills in policy analysis, data analysis, policy implementation, project planning and management and relationship management. In particular, through monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the uptake of Tataiako and through delivering the Māori-medium workforce work programme.
You would be expected to have:
- A tertiary qualification
- A track record of making a difference through advisory or investigative functions
- Experience in at least one area of social policy / policy implementation where you have had a strong focus on the needs of Māori
- Previous experience of leading projects
- An ability to analyse operational problems and develop solutions
- A well developed capacity to build and maintain strong and effective working relationships within and across organisations
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
The position is based in Wellington.
