Mō te tūnga | The role

This Business Unit involves leading the teams involved in the compilation of monthly and quarterly indicators that feed the National Accounts, and includes:

  • International Trade Team
  • Business Performance Team
  • Manufacturing and Distribution Team
  • Employment Insights Team

This role can be based in either Wellington or Christchurch, with travel to the other city required.

You will be part of Tatauranga Aotearoa, Stats NZ’s Senior Leadership team and accountable for delivering value for money outcomes for our customers, suppliers and stakeholders that come from the informed use of official statistics and related information.

Your focus will be to provide sound senior leadership to ensure that your business unit operates effectively and efficiently, and delivers agreed outputs to budget and to support achievement of Stats NZ strategic priorities in the following areas:

  • Lead the business unit’s strategy and direction
  • Lead people and technical leadership
  • Provide operational management and lead service delivery
  • Manage key external relationships and drive Stats NZ’s sector leadership
  • Communicate effectively
  • Proactively manage your business unit’s Health, Safety and Wellbeing practices
  • Where relevant, lead the delivery of data and information products and services that better meet the needs of Māori

With a balance of developed profession attributes, we’re hoping you bring the following skills and experience:

  • An open and fresh approach, inclusive and collaborative style and the desire to delight your customers
  • Relevant and recent experience leading teams in the compilation of economic statistics
  • Experience and confidence briefing key government and private sector stakeholders
  • Experience working collaboratively with internal stakeholders and service areas
  • Ability to manage workloads and maintain a healthy work-life balance
  • Knowledge/familiarity or a commitment to learning/understanding Te Ao Māori, in order to understand and contribute meaningful work and outcomes for Māori communities.
