We have a great opportunity for new appointees to join our Tai Tokerau team. Our aim is to lift student achievement and engagement and bring about change for and with schools, Communities of Learning – Kāhui Ako, whānau and communities. Our vision is ultimately about ensuring young people succeed personally and achieve academically, so in years to come they are productive, valued in their community and competitive in their world.

This position includes working strategically with a small team towards addressing the barriers to successful student engagement in education across years 1 to 13. The successful applicant will be able to build positive and strong networks with schools, iwi and other stakeholders.

This role will give you the opportunity to directly work with school and their communities to support and strengthen performance. You will be working as part of our regional team, using evidence and data to work with schools/kura and Kāhui Ako, and at times families/whanau.

Your key priorities will include the following:

  • Working with Communities of Learning – Kāhui Ako and individual kura/schools to improve their student achievement and the systems and infrastructure that support this
  • Using detailed analysis of schools/kura performance and student achievement to influence change and maximise education outcomes for students
  • Supporting schools/kura to realise their potential. This may include building capability, strengthening governance and management, devel oping curriculum and monitoring assessment
  • Working with students, whanau/family and agencies to ensure best educational outcomes for all students

To be successful in this role you will need to be an exceptional communicator with proven skills in building and managing strong, effective relationships and have a core knowledge and understanding of the New Zealand education system and relevant legislation.

You will also offer the following:

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work with student achievement data to determine needs and priorities
  • Cultural competence, capability, credibility and understanding the relevance of identity; language and culture for Māori, Pasifika and students with learning needs
  • An understanding of Kahikitia, the Pasifika Education Plan and Success for All and how these documents impact on the work
  • Successful experience of working with school leaders, Boards of Trustees or Communities of Learning – Kāhui Ako to strengthen school practice and raise student achievement
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • A tertiary qualification or equivalent
