Permanent Research Product Owner
This is a permanent role critical to transform how researchers are supported to fund and manage their research projects and deliver benefits to society. We are looking for a committed Research Product Owner willing to work alongside diverse stakeholders to implement systems that meet their needs.
As a committed technology leader, the Research Product Owner is the go-to person for research system information, who ultimately represents the user needs and stakeholder interests to the delivery teams.
Some key responsibilities include:
- Leadership in justifying the business need, defining user stories and acceptance criteria, creation and curation of the product backlog, and taking an active part in customer testing.
- Leadership in engagement with researchers and research management teams to understand their needs, collaborate to find solutions, and agree priorities.
- Strategy and planning of product vision for a portfolio, including market options, stakeholder needs, product road map, and co-ordination of releases and launches.
- Build strong relationships with University Connect (IT), product owners across other business units, and with external vendors.
- Contribute to ongoing development and continuous improvement, communicating delivery progress, organising research related product showcases, and facilitating community sessions.

We now have a rare opportunity for an experienced Product Owner to drive systems development and enhancement to enable the University’s research operation.
Our ideal applicant will be an experienced professional, with a proven background in an Academic or similar Research intensive environment. You will have strong knowledge of the challenges and complexities in research and will have demonstrated your ability to lead engagement with academic researchers and a diverse range of stakeholders. You will be proficient with technology implementation and lifecycle planning in a large and dynamic organisation. Experience with systems development and enhancement roadmaps is required.
You’ll need to demonstrate a high-level ability to both influence without authority and effectively communicate complex concepts and information to a diverse range of key stakeholders both in Research and general IT.
You are a confident communicator, who operates with energy and passion. Highly collaborative, you partner closely with your peers, value the opinions of others and model best practice principles and behaviours.
The ability to listen effectively and summarise understanding of research technology needs is paramount.
