NZ Registered Social Worker

As an NZ Registered social worker, you will be pro-active in engaging in and accessing community resources, and of recovery perspectives utilised in a focused and customised way.

Established almost 50 years ago, in response to providing community residential services for people leaving psychiatric hospitals, Kāhui Tū Kaha is today a not-for-profit provider of housing and mental health services.  Providing recovery support, utilising the principles of client recovery via community resources, you will be responsible for assessing and actively supporting your clients to achieve their recovery goals by providing individual and group interventions.

Support is provided individually, as a ‘wrap-around’ service or ‘package of care’. Managing individual relationships and caseload effectively, you will have the clinical expertise to recognise early warning signs and potential safety concerns and take appropriate action. Leading the development of the first needs assessment and goal plans alongside a support worker, you will develop effective and approachable relationships with clients and their families, delivering social work interventions that that have a focus on client’s strengths.

Skills, experience and competencies for this role are to include;

    • Registration with NZ SWRB and current annual practicing certificate.
    • An ability to use tikanga Māori in daily work practice and apply a bicultural lens to all you do.
    • 2+ year’s experience within mental health or social community services.
    • Working knowledge of the Strengths Model.
    • Ability to engage in shift patterns of work.
    • Experience in NZ community.
    • Familiarity of relevant mental health legislation.
    • A confident networker with ability to build and utilise resources.
    • Accurate and timely documentation skills.
    • A full, clean NZ drivers’ licence.

Guided and mentored by the Service Manager, you will have caseloads with advanced levels of complexity.  Your clients may currently be going through the judicial system, have complex whānau or physical health issues, and have generational and cyclical barriers to overcome.  As such, you will have daily contact with government organisations such as ACC, WINZ and HNZ, and have the local community connections to bring a customised programme of care together for your client.

Being a confident decision maker in crisis situations, you will be an agile thinker, with knowledge of recovery perspective and skills to work in a recovery focussed service.Culturally competent, with the ability to use tikanga Māori in daily work practice, you will be looking to join a kaupapa Māori service based organisation that operates within the foundations of ‘wrap around’ whānau-based ways of working.
