Established almost 50 years ago,  in response to providing community residential services for people leaving psychiatric hospitals, Kāhui Tū Kaha is today a not-for-profit provider of housing and mental health services.  Providing recovery support, utilising the principles of client recovery via community resources, you will be responsible for assessing and actively supporting your clients to achieve their recovery goals by providing individual and group interventions.

Assessing the needs of each individual client, you will seek to support, enable and work with them towards the achievement of their goals and provide comprehensive clinical assessments and intervention plans. You will nurture long term, trusting relationships with clients and their whānau and provide full wrap around packages of care specific to their individual needs.

This position requires the individual to have strong professional ethics and a holistic approached that is client centered, and strengths based.

Skills, experience and competencies for this role are to include;

  • RNZCGP clinical registration – with a current practising certificate.
  • 2-3 years of nursing experience.
  • A high cultural competence and ability to use tikanga Māori in daily work practice.
  • Knowledge of relevant mental health legislation and of the Strengths Model.
  • Understanding and experience in NZ community work.
  • Experience of recovery perspectives and the skills to work in a recovery focused way.
  • Available to enter into shift patterns of support work.
  • Compassion, motivation and an aptitude which pushes you to exceed.

You will already have a sound understanding of the current issues facing people who are experiencing mental health illness within the local community.  Highly cognisant of managing your clients co-existing problems, you will be able to self-manage, and be a confident decision maker, able to think cognitively in a crisis, and display excellent clinical judgment and strong professional boundaries.

An agile thinker, with knowledge of recovery perspective and skills to work in a recovery focused service. Culturally competent with the ability to use tikanga Māori in daily work practice, you will be looking to join a kaupapa Māori Service based organisation which operates within the foundations of wrap around whānau ways of working.
