Our property portfolio is essential to our core business of teaching and research.
An opportunity has emerged for an experienced professional to join the Facilities Management team in a senior capacity as the Project Manager for Building Safety. Based within the Property Services division, this is a pivotal role with key accountability for the management of hazardous materials related to the fabric of University buildings, across the University’s property portfolio.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Facilities Management, your primary responsibility will be to successfully develop, manage and execute a professional service responsible for managing hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead paint, synthetic mineral fibres, ozone depleting substances and polychlorinated hydrocarbons, for instance. You will be expected to be the subject matter expert and will provide advice with regard to legislative compliance, striving for a best practice approach to hazardous materials management.
Our Ideal Candidate
Ideally you will be tertiary qualified within a technical field, like Science, Engineering or similar. Alternatively, you should be able to demonstrate a technical knowledge and understanding that aligns with the requirements of this role.
You will have a minimum of 2 years specialist Asbestos-related experience.
In order to achieve organisational-wide buy-in and embed key best-practice approaches, you’ll need to demonstrate a high-level ability to both influence without authority and effectively communicate complex concepts to a diverse range of stakeholder.
You are a confident communicator, who operates with energy and passion. Highly collaborative, you partner closely with your peers, value the needs of others and model best practice principles and behaviours.
Preference will be given to candidates who have commercial and project management experience in a facilities or construction related environment, either gained in the tertiary education sector or working for a large multifaceted, public sector or corporate environment.
The University is embarking on one of the largest capital programmes in the University’s history and candidates with a proven understanding of building programme impacts on facilities operations will be preferred. You will be able to think strategically and provide valuable input to the programme to achieve the best long-term outcomes.
