About the assignment

Use your project management skills to make a real difference by supporting the creation of the Meri Seif Haus in Papua New Guinea.

Papua New Guinea has one of the worst rates of family and sexual violence in the world. There is a clear need and desire for a new safe house for victims and survivors and the Filiae Maria Imakulata (FMI) Sisters, who will run the house, need help to make it successful.

As the Project Management Adviser (Safe House) volunteer you will use your project and operational management skills, coupled with your excellent communication and interpersonal skills to help ensure the success of the safe house project proposal. This will range from supporting the Sisters with planning, construction and stakeholder management during the build, to helping develop and implement policies and procedures for when the safe house is operational.

You will provide strong capacity building to the Sisters and other stakeholders by assessing skills gaps, and then providing mentoring and training in project management they can use to manage the build and running of the safe house in the future.

We are looking for a volunteer with:

  • Experience organising, coordinating and managing projects
  • Experience managing relationships with various stakeholders
  • Experience in operational or process management/developing processes
  • Ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach others
