OPCAT Programme and Administration Officer

Mō te Tari o te Kaitiaki Mana Tangata – About the Office of the Ombudsman

As an independent Officer of Parliament, the Chief Ombudsman works to ensure people are treated fairly by handling complaints against government agencies and encouraging good administration. As part of his role, the Chief Ombudsman monitors and inspects places of detention for cruel and inhuman treatment under the United Nations Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture (OPCAT).

Mō tō mātou tira – About our team

As our jurisdictions have expanded our second OPCAT team responsible for the inspections of  facilities including parts of private aged care facilities throughout New Zealand is seeking programme and administrative support. Led by the Manager OPCAT, this small team of Inspectors require extensive administrative support to enable them to undertake this important work.

Mō te tūranga – About the role

The OPCAT Programme and Administration Officer will provide programme coordination, administration and logistics support to Inspectors. This includes preparing and tracking inspection programme and budget documentation, and coordinating activities, meetings and resources to support the successful measurement of the inspections programme. You will make travel arrangements for the team and prepare inspections programme planning documentation to help keep the team on track.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Significant experience in a similar administration and programme coordination role.
  • Understanding and experience with project management methodology.
  • Superior planning and organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to work effectively across multiple projects and activities in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills with a willingness to contribute to a constructive, positive team environment.
  • High level of integrity and discretion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced MS Office Excel skills
