We are seeking a Principal Data Analyst to join Manatū Taonga – Ministry of Culture and Heritage in our reporting portfolio team. This role will be supporting the management of the data and information lifecycle and enable the delivery of reporting, benefit management, intelligence and analytical services to key internal and external stakeholders.

This is a fixed-term opportunity to March 2024 and is based in our historical building on Lambton Quay in the heart of the CBD.

Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

This role enables Manatū Taonga to use data and information for the day-to-day management of activities and for evidence based decision making. You will play a key role in meeting data and information needs across Manatū Taonga. The role sits within the Te Iho Organisational Performance Business Group and liaises closely with internal stakeholders to understand their business needs.

Kōrero mōu – About you

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Several years of practical experience building, supporting, and maintaining data management and business intelligence products
  • Experience leading data activities and projects end-to-end
  • Knowledge of Extract Transform Load (ETL) processes
  • SQL experience preferably using Python or R
  • Experience undertaking complex data queries from multiple data sets
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically
  • Working knowledge of the New Zealand Information Security Manual, the Protective Security Requirements, the Government Open Data, the Privacy Principles and records management best practices is desirable
