Job Description

The Education System Policy (ESP) Group leads strategic system policy advice to shape education system settings so they are highly supportive of effective learning pathways for every child and young person.
Providing system policy advice across the education system from early childhood education to schooling, and on education system settings for Māori and Pacific children and young people.
The Office of the Deputy Secretary leads the Cabinet paper process for the whole Ministry, including oversight and updates on the pipeline of papers, scheduled report backs, distribution of agendas and committee minutes.
The position of Principal Advisor offers a truly cross Ministry focus. With day to day management of a Business Advisor, you will lead engagement and education across the groups to set and embed best practice. As well as providing Leadership teams with timely and accurate advice on trends, topical issues and opportunities related to the Ministry’s cabinet activities.
On top of this, the role provides secretariat support to a number of cross agency CE level meetings. This role will suit an individual who is highly motivated with a desire to make a positive difference on key Ministry issues.
To be successful in this role you will:
- be a strong communicator, with excellent written and verbal skills
- have experience working in or around Ministers’ Offices
- be confident and capable interacting with senior leaders
- have had previous experience managing and mentoring staff
- thrive in a high pace environment.
