Full-Time Poumanaaki Te Waka Hauora (Māori Cultural Support Worker)
NOTE: This job listing has expired and may no longer be relevant!
Nelson Marlborough Health’s (NMH’s) Māori Health and Vulnerable Populations Team, Te Waka Hauora, is seeking applications for the newly established and exciting roles of Poumanaaki – Māori Cultural Support Workers within NMH’s Māori Health Service. These are new roles; one of which will be based in Nelson Hospital and the other in Blenheim – working at Wairau Hospital; however, the possibility may arise for even more positions to be appointed to in the near future.
The position will provide cultural and social support to Māori patients and their whānau and will report directly to the GM of Māori Health and Vulnerable Populations. While fluency in Te Reo is advantageous, applicants with a basic understanding of Te Reo Māori will be considered, as we can support development in the Māori language within our workplace. A background in health, social services, or the like, would be desirable, but again – is not essential.
The role will be diverse in nature as you will provide cultural and social support to patients and whānau that are admitted to our hospital, but will also have a focus on supporting bicultural education of our hospital staff and may also at times support wider community based projects or programmes being run in our communities by the Māori Health team.
Having an established understanding and network of our local Māori communities would be an asset. The ability to work as a member of a team will be essential. While we welcome applicants of all ages, we do encourage rangatahi/youth to apply for these positions as part of our commitment to invest in our younger generations.
Nelson Marlborough Health is looking to build a centre of excellence in regards to Māori Health; appointments to these positions are part of that journey. If this role sounds like you – please apply online via our Careers Site.
Appointment and ongoing employment will be conditional upon criminal record/police checks. This may include checks under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014.
Closing date: Thursday, 5 October 2017.
