Te Kotahitanga is a private Trust that has primary role of managing, growing, and developing its resources, so as to benefit its people by creating sustainable opportunities, and to promote Te Ātiawatanga.  Built on solid foundations with a clear identity and organised strategy, they are seeking a senior leader to navigate, mobilise and lead the organisation to the next phase of growth and development.

The position of Pou Whakahaere – will call out to those with the mana, security of self and humility, coupled with motivation and experience to build relationships and rapport from the grass roots to the board room. Taking others on your journey as the next 5 year plan is operationalised; the intent is to lead the Te Kotahitanga staff to continue to develop highly positive links within local iwi, hapū and marae and deliver on the key objectives of empowering Te Ātiawa people, build capability and progressively grow..  Having the ability to make decisions with speed and conviction, to back up your ideas and present a well thought out and researched rationale, you will engage with impact whilst maintaining a cultural oversight on the journey to positive outcomes.  You will be charged with steering a clear course, developing an astute understanding of your stakeholder needs and motivations, bringing them along with you, as you drive performance and equip your staff to enable them to deliver on key organisational goals.

Strategic development and organisational leadership are cornerstones of the position, working with the Board to lead the implementation of the strategic direction through the annual plan.  Ensuring annual priorities and operational plans are aligned with the Strategic Plan and the Te Kotahitanga Trust Deed; you will actively seek new opportunities that help to prosper Te Ātiawa resources and tribal estate. Financial management, strong business acumen, audit and risk experience at a senior/strategic level will ensure effective financial management systems are in place and maintained.

Skills knowledge and experience required will include:

  • Executive leadership experience.
  • Capability and experience to work with Te Ātiawa iwi, hapū and whanau, and a reputation as someone who is trusted and leads in a tika, pono and aroha way.
  • Proven people leadership, management and mentoring experience (at least 5 years) at senior or executive management level ideally including Maori asset management.
  • Strong financial management and modelling skills including risk management experience and experience in overseeing the auditing process of financial statements.
  • Skilled with the writing, review and monitoring of quarterly and annual reports
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, development, and implementation.
  • Skilled at leading and creating a strong and values aligned organisational culture.
  • Strong written communication skills and a confident public speaker.
  • Forward thinking and risk analysis – can demonstrate delivery on long term plans.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification is preferred within a commercial, management, legal or accounting field – but may be offset by considerable experience in a relevant sector.

Knowledge of Te Ātiawa tribal structures, relationships and processes are highly desirable, with the ability to work with Te Ātiawa whānau, hapū and iwi is prerequisite to success.

Pragmatically inclusive, you involve others in decision making processes, but you will also be an independent decision maker. Knowing when to “flex” opposing capability to achieve the right outcome, you’ll actively and optimistically pursue new opportunities in liaison with the Board.

Overseeing the implementation and review of the communications plan, you will ensure effective and regular communication with iwi members using a variety of media.  Ensuring the currency and relevance of information on the Te Kotahitanga o Te Ātiawa website and Facebook page, you will be social media savvy, and able to adapt communication pitch to meet a cross demographic and the needs of diverse stakeholder groups.
