Mō tēnei tūranga mahi – About the role

The purpose of this role is to develop goals for the teams this position will be working with, against the Pacific Strategy and use these to guide the evaluation of service design, practices and interactions with Pacific families, learners and communities. They will work with teams to increase appeal of service provision to Pacific learners, ensure appropriate benefits are reaching Pacific learners and ensure practices support the retention of Pacific learners.

This new and exciting role will be leading the Pacific Cultural Home project which is to work alongside the Pacific families to better support the learner. The Pacific Education Navigator will engage with Pacific families around barriers that they may face in education. This person will have Confidence and efficient communication to build trust with Pacific families.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide coordination and support for the Pacific Lead and the Pacific Strategy
  • Plan and organise Pacific activities, meetings and workshops, working closely with the Pacific Lead, Heads of Department and Managers
  • To work across the organisation and the Departments, providing cultural support to members of the Division Leadership Team as required
  • To be resourceful and use initiative to follow up and close actions, reporting back to the Pacific Lead
  • Educate families on the Pacific student journey
  • Identify barriers and put a plan on how to support the family

  • Experience working within pastoral care and a mentoring environment
  • Pacific culture understanding
  • Working with the Pacific community
  • Leadership/management skills
  • High level interpersonal communication skills with people at all levels
  • A high level of written communication skills
  • Competent in the use of technology and computing packages at least to intermediate level
  • Ability to synthesis information
  • Ability to prepare high quality presentations
  • Exceptional time management, meeting deadlines and prioritising multiple demands
