Job Description

PACIFIC ADVISORY GROUP POSITIONS

Tāmaki Paenga Hira: Tui tui hono tangata, whenua me te moana.

Auckland War Memorial Museum: Connecting through sharing stories of people, lands and seas

Auckland Museum is a much-loved culture and heritage organisation at the heart of Auckland’s identity, committed to outstanding management of its world-class collections and the employees and volunteers who tell the Museum’s stories. We are Auckland’s home of commemoration as well as the country’s oldest research institution and a major tourist destination.

Auckland Museum is proud to have a robust Pacific dimension and is working to build on this to ensure our Pacific collections and communities are embraced and celebrated. The Auckland Museum Pacific Advisory Group (PAG) assists the Museum in strengthening this Pacific dimension, alongside the Museums Pacific strategy entitled Teu Le Vā. The aim is to reflect Auckland’s rich, contemporary Pacific culture, improve the under-representation of visitation by Pacific people, and increase their engagement with the Museum.

The AM Pacific Advisory Group is now open to receiving expressions of interest for three new members, one of which is a Youth position.

The group meets bi-monthly, and members are committed to attending at least 70% of these meetings.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • be of Pacific descent
  • have a good knowledge of Pacific communities
  • understand and support diverse Pacific cultures
  • have experience with governance or leadership and advisory roles
  • understand the Museums direction and Teu Le Vā strategy
  • have solid skills or expertise in a particular field of work or study

The fees set out below will be made to each member per attendance at the bi-monthly meetings. For any meetings in addition to this or sub-committee work a separate fee will be negotiated and paid. The amount covers all costs including travel, reading and preparation, meeting times, as well as any Museum event(s) that PAG members may be called upon as a PAG representative. Meeting fees will not be paid for meetings that members are unable to attend.

Chairperson (up to 8 hours work): $500

Member (up to 5 hours work): $250

You must be eligible to work in New Zealand to apply for this position.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to be part of a fabulous organisation committed to telling our national and Auckland stories, reflecting our unique place in the South Pacific.
