Ko wai mātou? – Who are we?

Te Wānanga o Aotearoa (TWoA) is deeply grounded in Māori values, and committed to whānau transformation through education. For over 30 years we have been delivering recognised qualifications to meet the needs of school leavers, business professionals, empty-nest mums and dads, indigenous academics and kaumātua/kuia. Kaiako are strong, motivated, self-determined and self-reflective practitioners of ako (teaching/learning), facilitating highest quality learning experiences. It’s about transforming the individual lives of each tauira, and by association their whānau and communities, one person at a time.

With sites in 80 towns and cities around Aotearoa kaiako are passionate, experienced, and go above and beyond.

At TWoA, all educational practices have foundations deeply embedded in mātauranga Māori, supported by the organisation wide understanding that education creates options and opportunities; and provides alternative education options for people whose needs are not being met by mainstream education providers. Supporting others to learn, grow, and make it through life’s challenges, these positions will call to those with life skills, with the transferable skill set to educate, and the person drive and mana to be influential and compelling in your delivery of knowledge.

What could be next, is your passing onto others your knowledge and experience, setting 2022 as a legacy phase of your life, by providing others with the skills which will enable them to thrive. As an effective kaiako, you’ll have an engaging classroom presence, see the value in real- world learning, and embrace those discouraged by their prior experiences.

The skill set of a kaiako is a very special gift. Those who have that gift make a positive, lasting impression on the lives of their tauira that can totally change the trajectory of their lives. Looking outside of the traditional teaching norms, these positions are open to both experienced kaiako/tutors, and to those with the determination to teach, but may not have found a pathway to do so. Displaying innovation, enthusiasm, and passion, through all you do and all you deliver, you will be known for your ability to think outside of the box, and for your eagerness to find new ways to innovate and deliver.

Overarching to all of the positions is your ability to enable others with the skills which will support them to thrive a cultural experience in everyday mahi through pöwhiri, karakia, waiata and whanaungatanga.
