 Mō te tūnga | The role

We’re looking for a manager to support our Statistical Change and Optimisation team, leading up to eight staff across the motu. You will work very closely with the Manager – Statistical Change and Customer Value and report to the Senior Manager, Statistical Change and Assurance.

The focus of the Statistical Change and Optimisation team is to support the organisation to deliver statistical change. This includes helping teams optimise existing processes and systems as well as providing advice and expertise on new pieces of work and projects. Additionally, this team is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and improvement of the Covid-19 Data Portal, the Stats NZ Open Data API, and Ngā Tūtohu Aotearoa – Indicators Aotearoa.

In the role, you’ll have the opportunity to lead a technically minded team to deliver a variety of work. You’ll also have the opportunity to build relationships with peers and key staff across Stats NZ. This role is primarily about people leadership, so while an understanding of the work we do is useful, it’s not critical – you’ll build that as you go.

Starting salary: $110,614 – $130,134 negotiable

In this role we’re looking for someone who has a delivery focus in order to make things happen and achieve positive outcomes. In addition, we are looking for someone who:

  • can drive continuous improvement to strengthen organisational performance and improve outcomes for customers
  • is proactive and can deliver under pressure
  • has strong people leadership skills, including a coaching, empowering and inclusive approach
  • has relationship and communication skills to build trust and rapport with your team, peers, customers, and stakeholders
  • has knowledge/familiarity with, or a commitment to learn/understand, te ao Māori.

The successful applicant can be based in either Wellington or Christchurch.
