Mō te tūnga | The role

We’re looking for a manager to support our Statistical Change and Customer Value team, leading up to eight staff across the motu. You will work very closely with the Manager – Statistical Change and Optimisation and report to the Senior Manager, Statistical Change and Assurance.

The focus of the Statistical Change and Customer Value team is to support the organisation to deliver products and services that meet the needs of customers. This includes helping to co-ordinate and prioritise statistical change proposals as well as understanding the value that our products and services provide. Additionally, this team is responsible for improving the quality assurance of the organisations statistics as well as coordinating training and capability development.

In the role, you’ll have the opportunity to lead a customer focussed team to deliver a variety of work. You’ll also have the opportunity to build relationships with peers and key staff across Stats NZ. This role is primarily about people leadership, so while an understanding of the work we do is useful, it’s not critical – you’ll build that as you go.

Starting salary: $110,614 – $130,134 negotiable

In this role we’re looking for someone who has experience engaging with customers to ensure customer expectations and needs are met. In addition, we are also looking for someone who:

  • can communicate in a clear and persuasive way to convince others to embrace change
  • demonstrates ability to work across boundaries to deliver improvements to system and customer outcomes
  • has strong people leadership skills, including a coaching, empowering and inclusive approach
  • has relationship and communication skills to build trust and rapport with your team, peers, customers, and stakeholders
  • has knowledge/familiarity with, or a commitment to learn/understand, te ao Māori.

The successful applicant can be based in either Wellington or Christchurch.
