Lead, protect and grow key strategic initiatives which deliver outcomes that enable and empower at all levels of the iwi, including social, cultural, economic and environmental imperatives.
Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Rārua is the mandated iwi authority of the iwi Ngāti Rārua, who are from Te Tau Ihu o te Waka a Maui and of Tainui waka. The role of the Rūnanga is to care, uphold and enhance the mana, the assets and the whānau whānui of Ngāti Rārua.

Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Rārua is entering an exciting stage of growth and development where they will require resourcing to meet and sustain their long-term strategic goals. As Kaiwhakahaere Matua of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Rārua, you will be charged with building an effective, performance-focused relationship with the Board of Trustees.
Honouring the aspirations of their whānau, they are seeking someone who can lead with mana, deliver on tribal and whānau aspirations and help invigorate Ngāti Rāruatanga for current and future generations.
Providing high quality operational oversight and strategic support, you will work through a lens that maintains a constant focus on strengthening Ngāti Rārua through your authentic approach and commitment to tika, aroha, pono.
Taking an organisation-wide view, you will be confident in your abilities to develop and implement initiatives that will achieve the outcomes of the strategic plan. You will apply your astute financial acumen, ability to manage risk; and means to formulate a plan of action and execute it. Your career will have been founded on a proven track record of both a strategic and operational contribution to the organisations you have previously led.
By broadening commercial, business and innovation development, exploring opportunities to diversify and expand portfolios, you will be delivering support to the Board, including high quality, accurate fiscal data and analysis.
In addition, your well-honed communication skills will serve you well, as you actively seek opportunities to engage and form long-term, meaningful relationships with a diverse range of key stakeholder groups ranging from funding agencies, business, industries, government, iwi, hapū and marae.
Expectations of the applicant will incorporate;
- The proven ability as a General Manager or CEO equivalent in a role requiring high level management, judgement, communication and relationship management skills.
- Competency in Te Reo me ona tikanga Māori.
- The efficient management of budgets, work programmes, planning, contracts, reporting and resources.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen.
- The established ability as a people influencer and people leader.
Protecting and celebrating tribal taonga, traditions and histories, you will impact cultural revitalisation via the modelling of your key core values and be resolute in your goal of identifying key opportunities for Ngāti Rārua for future generations to continue to thrive and grow.
