Te tūnga | The role

Mahi Kohikohi (Collection Operations) are the operational business unit responsible for the design and planning of all of Stats NZ’s data collections through surveys and administrative data feeds.

In this role you will report to the Senior Manager – Design, Planning and Insights.

You will lead the Insights team to deliver business intelligence and actionable insights to ensure Collection Operations meets its targets. You will partner with our data collection managers to provide them critical performance data which supports them to run our operations. The team provides workforce planning for survey delivery. You will also contribute widely to shared leadership of the Collection Operations Team and the wider Stats NZ organization.

  • Project/Delivery Experience
  • Understanding of the development and delivery of BI products and services

    • Internal stakeholder relationships to form broader perspectives, challenge your ideas, test your thinking, gain different viewpoints, and encourage collaborative design and better alignment of outputs

    • Framing vision, strategy, and desired outcomes to strategically influence and gain commitment to the work required to achieve the desired organisational outcome
    • Collective leadership, working with others to solve problems and challenges and to inform joined up decisions and approaches for the greater good of the organisation
    • Your people; Mentoring and coaching, identifying career aspirations, development needs, performance management and recognition
  • Management experience, talking specifically to the following points:
    • Resource planning, forecasting and management, setting and managing budgets, procurement, and sourcing
    • Delivering difficult messages and information, making tough decisions, acting on issues and dealing with difficult situations quickly, decisively and respectfully to uphold one’s mana
  • Professional or personal training and development, where you’ve sought and acted on feedback, a continuous improvement mindset, willing to test your comfort zone, try new things and innovate, curiosity and adaptability
  • Your knowledge and experience, or desire to learn and build knowledge and experience of Te Tiriti, Tikanga, Te Reo and Te Ao Māori and the importance of our role as a Te Tiriti partner
  • Your knowledge and experience of diversity and inclusion, why supporting D&I initiatives is important as a leader
