As Kaihautū, you’ll support the ongoing implementation of the Māori Success Strategy through programme development. You’ll advise staff on matters pertaining to te ao Māori and facilitate and manage obligations to embed mātauranga Māori content and practices in programmes. You’ll also assist in the professional development of staff with regards to responsive engagement with Māori students and the delivery of embedded Mātauranga Māori.
With the work that you do, you’ll contribute to the improvement of Māori student outcomes (retention, success, progression) at Unitec through the embedding of mātauranga Māori in programmes. You’ll also undertake special projects and tasks as requested by the Director – Māori Success.

To be successful in this position you’ll possess an intimate understanding of mātauranga Māori knowledge and practices, you have the ability to demonstrate credibility with Māori communities and iwi groups. Ideally you are skilled in te reo and tikanga Māori and you are able to lead consistently through tikanga Māori.
You’ll hold a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, as well as a demonstrated successful background in tertiary education. You’ll be familiar with academic processes of tertiary education institutions, including an understanding of successful teaching practices and learning processes and understanding of current issues in curriculum and pedagogical theory and practice.
