E ka mana, e ka reo, e ka rau rakatira ma, tena ra koutou katoa
We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive and committed team player to join Te Punaka Owheo in the provision of a professional, targeted and culturally appropriate service to Maori learners.
The Kaiawhina role is responsible for providing pastoral care, learning advice and support for Maori learners, contributing to a holistic student experience. You will specifically be responsible for the support, advice, and guidance of Maori learners studying at Otago Polytechnic, in alignment with the six priorities of our Maori Strategic Framework. An ability to relate to, build and maintain relationships with learners, while understanding their academic and personal needs is essential. Proficiency in te reo me ona tikaka Maori and a solid understanding of tertiary education are vital.
A key part of the role is to liaise internally with Colleges and Schools in order to enhance student retention and success, as well as with external organisations to further support Maori learners, therefore the ability to relate well to a diverse range of people is also crucial.
Applicants must hold a relevant tertiary qualification and be experienced in an academic learning support / pastoral care or professional services role. The experience of working effectively in a tertiary educational setting would be an advantage.
Hours of work are ideally Monday – Friday, 6 hours per day, however this can be negotiated.
For specific information contact Desiree Williams on (03) 474 8466.
