Housing Support Workers

Our client is a not for profit organisation characterised by diversity, delivering innovative, meaningful, culturally competent and specialist health and social outcomes, to a diverse Auckland client base.

Due to expansion and growth, they are seeking Support Workers, to join their Social Housing Team. In this role as a Support Worker, you will actively work to deliver effective and innovative housing first services to support clients towards attaining suitable long-term accommodation that meets their needs.

An understanding and appreciation of Strengths and Recovery-Based practice will be highly sought after.

Your role will involve:

  • Supporting clients towards attaining suitable long-term accommodation that meet their needs.
  • Providing a responsive and culturally sensitive service.
  • Community independence planning and support.
  • Supporting people using the principals of Te Whare Tapa Whā.
  • Encouraging people to recognise their strengths, abilities, talents and interests.
  • Working with people to identify their personal goals and to support them to achieve these.
  • Encouraging people to take an active part in their community.

As the successful applicant, you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the Social Services and/or Social Housing sectors. Essentially, you will hold a Minimum Level 4 qualification in health or the social services field (or be studying towards a relevant qualification) a Full, clean NZ drivers licence and be required to undertake a police vetting.

In addition, you will demonstrate:

  • An understanding of issues facing client’s, including alcohol and drugs.
  • Confidence in decision making during crisis situations.
  • Excellent communication, relationship development, planning and organisational skills.
  • Passion and drive to achieve improved health and social outcomes for the community.
  • Sound computer skills across Microsoft Office suite.
  • A compassionate, caring, non-judgemental and supportive attitude.
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the principles of bi-culturalism.
