The Health Improvement team has an exciting opportunity to welcome a new motivated, skilled member who strives to make a positive difference to the health and wellbeing of vulnerable communities. The role will have an emphasis on improving the health and wellbeing of Pacific, Māori and other vulnerable or hard to reach communities in the Waikato District Health Board region.
To sustainably improve the health and wellbeing of Waikato communities in the settings of our everyday lives, the Health Improvement team engages with communities in a continuous process of inquiry, planning, action and transformation. We work alongside communities to inspire supportive environments that make the healthy choice the easy choice.
Our Health Improvement team works in partnership with the leaders and decision makers in a range of settings to prioritise wellbeing, advance whānau ora, and achieve health equity.
The successful applicant will be an accomplished public health professional committed to radically improving health outcomes and reducing inequities in Pacific communities. You must have a positive, strength based attitude, be open to innovation and have the confidence to hit the ground running.
You will be people focussed, team orientated, adaptable, delivery driven, computer literate, and have fantastic communication skills. Ideally you will be experienced in prioritising activities and managing projects, with skills in planning, implementation, and evaluation.
The settings that we currently work with are: Māori & Pacific communities, Workplaces, Education, and Health in all policies/Local Government. Experience working in any of these settings together with knowledge of and relationships with local organisations, iwi and communities within the Waikato rohe will set you apart from other applicants. Please indicate where your strengths may lie according to these settings. Experience in health promotion/ public health; accompanied by a qualification in public health or a relevant field is preferred.
You must have permanent residency or a valid long term working visa to be considered for this position.
While the main office for the Public Health Unit is in central city Hamilton, this role covers the whole DHB region. Therefore, a current full New Zealand Drivers licence will be required, to enable travel across the region.
