Job Description

Finance is responsible for facilitating and supporting informed financial decision-making through delivery of timely and accurate information, and the provision of insight and challenge resulting in a sustainable and viable University. This requires Finance to collaborate with non-finance colleagues to achieve the targets set by University Council and external stakeholders. There is an opportunity to assist the continuing development of an open and engaging culture across the Finance function.  It is an exciting time with some key transformations taking place.

The opportunity has now arisen to appoint several high profile leadership positions to the team including the Head of Financial Operations.

The role

This is a vital role to the greater University with a key input in maintaining the high quality of our statutory reporting, building on a positive customer focussed culture and identifying opportunities to continuously improve offerings and services to customers. Reporting directly to the CFO as part of the finance senior leadership team, the Head of Financial Operations has direct responsibility for external financial reporting and compliance requirements including the development of financial policy and procedure. They will support Financial Accounting and reporting through the provision of timely and good quality transaction processing and associated data/information whilst overseeing treasury management.

Some other key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure best practice processes and systems are in place to support the preparation of external reports, including reports to TEC and draft statutory accounts.
  • Demonstrate and ensure excellent customer service through the embedded service standards and reliable, efficient and accurate execution of service deliverables.
  • Oversee the Treasury programme to support the investment plans of the University.
  • Work collaboratively towards operational and strategic continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure best practice for monthly & annual reporting, reconciliations, and that financial information provided for decision making is applicable and relevant and timely.
  • Provide the Finance Operations team with clear direction and expectations for achievement of their agreed objectives and mentor and guide when needed.
  • Develop Finance strategies and frameworks that align with the strategic aims of the University and confirm robust business continuity and risk management plans.
  • Provide expertise and advice on financial governance and safeguard the Universities assets, ensuring compliance with regulation and GAAP.
  • Develop a high performing function through the development of talent, systems, training and communication strategies.

The successful candidate will exhibit an in-depth knowledge and understanding of senior finance operations and statutory reporting within large and complex organisations. They will need to demonstrate proven relationship management strengths, with clear evidence of your ability to build successful business partnerships and drive strategic direction and effective service cultures. This is a senior leadership position and a unique role that requires strong skills in people management, influencing and driving collaboration. High-level communication ability is essential, with verbal, written and interpersonal skills integral to success in this role.

In addition, the successful applicants will possess strong analytical ability coupled with an innovative and creative thinking style and robust business and technology acumen.
