Job Description

Finance is responsible for facilitating and supporting informed financial decision-making through delivery of timely and accurate information, and the provision of insight resulting in a sustainable and viable University. This requires Finance to collaborate with non-finance colleagues to achieve the targets set by University Council and external stakeholders. There is an opportunity to assist the continuing development of an open and engaging culture across the Finance function.  It is an exciting time with some key transformations taking place.

The opportunity has now arisen to appoint several high profile leadership positions to the team including the Head of Financial Business Services.

The role

This is a vital role to the greater University in developing and growing a positive customer focused culture and identifying opportunities to continuously improve offerings and services to customers. Reporting directly to the CFO as part of the finance senior leadership team, the Head of FBS has direct responsibility for leading, developing, implementing and maintaining the Finance Business Partnering model and will oversee improved decision support across the University through financial input. They also ensure financial assets are managed in line with the asset management strategy. Some other key responsibilities include:

  • Develop, interpret and communicate University policies on finance, accounting, budgeting, insurance, financial and accounting systems, internal controls and auditing, sensitive expenditure, procurement and financial delegations to meet internal and external requirements.
  • Provide the Finance Business Partnership Services team with clear direction and expectations for achievement of key objectives.
  • Advance and implement the Business Partnering Model through developing relationships across Faculties and Service Divisions ensuring that customer needs and expectations are being met.
  • Cultivate Finance strategies and frameworks that align with the strategic aims of the University, balancing local and organisation wide requirements.
  • Lead the implementation of the FBPS function communications plan
  • Financial governance including developing and providing expertise on financial governance approach and finance policy.
  • Continuous Improvement including oversight of robust business continuity plans, risk management and continuous improvement plans.
  • Assist in developing a high performing function through the development of talent, systems, training and communication strategies.

The successful candidate will exhibit an in-depth knowledge and understanding of senior finance within large and complex organisations. They will need to demonstrate proven relationship management strengths, with clear evidence of your ability to build successful business partnerships and drive strategic direction and effective service cultures. This is a senior leadership position and a unique role that requires strong skills in influencing and driving collaboration. High-level communication ability is essential, with verbal, written and interpersonal skills integral to success in this role.

In addition, the successful applicants will possess strong analytical ability coupled with an innovative and creative thinking style and robust business and technology acumen.
