Help shape the future of education
At the Ministry of Education, we work together to shape an education system that delivers equitable and excellent outcomes.
Our organisation is made up of more than 3,000 talented and committed people around New Zealand, from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.
While we work in different groups and on different things, we all strive every day to make the biggest difference we can for every child, young person and adult student in our education system.
Education Infrastructure Service (EIS), a part of the Ministry of Education, manages the Crown’s second largest property portfolio of around 2,100 schools with a book value of $19.6 billion, the largest payroll in the country, and transportation of over 100,000 students to and from school each day.
About the role
You will bring strength to the core Payroll Delivery function and combine strong payroll technical knowledge with operational nous and an ability to leverage relationships to get the job done. This role will be key in ensuring we have the right skills and experience as we build on achievements to date and look to the next stage of payroll development.
You will stand in for the Associate Deputy Secretary – Payroll when needed, but also feel comfortable in filling other Manager roles if/when required. That is, you have an awareness of both ‘up’ and ‘across’ roles and the flexibility and the team management skills to seamlessly move as required.
This role will develop and lead school payroll delivery activities to ensure the national school payroll function is continuously improving. It will drive short/long term process improvements within the Ministry’s Payroll team and be a person of influence with internal and external stakeholders.
You will have proven relevant payroll experience and a track record of success and results in a senior management role in a large and complex delivery organisation, including strategic and financial/operational management accountability and stakeholder engagement.
You will also offer the following:
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to facilitate outcomes through personal credibility and influence
- Highly developed strategic and critical thinking skills and analytical capability
- The ability to make sound decisions within short timeframes and effectively ‘think on your feet’
- Strong knowledge of the Government’s direction, policy priorities, and budgeting processes.
This is an excellent role within a can-do team for a Payroll expert who enjoys working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and is looking for that next challenge.
Are you ready to make a difference?
We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds, including Māori, Pacific and those with disabilities, who will enrich our understanding of the education system.
As a government agency, the Ministry is committed to keeping to the Treaty of Waitangi’s guiding principles in our work for and with Māori students, their whānau, hapū and iwi.
