The Ngā Pōtiki a Tamapahore Trust is a post-settlement governance entity responsible for administering and growing the assets of the iwi for and on behalf of Ngā Pōtiki members.  An innovative organisation that seeks to promote and support the educational, spiritual, economic, social, and cultural wellbeing and advancement of Ngā Pōtiki and its people.  Supporting and advancing the care and remediation of the natural environment, including places of cultural and spiritual significance, the Trust undertakes a number of key project and commercial activities.

The position General Manager is integral to the Trusts’ future progress and an exciting next step for those with established people management competencies. With a track record of superior operating skills, you will have the inherent ability to manage people via a leadership style that encourages staff self-management, empowerment and embracing initiative.

An inspiring and uniting leader, you will be looking to make a real and lasting contribution to the future of iwi, hapū and marae. With the proven experience to build relationships and rapport that reach from grass roots to the board room, you will steer a clear course, bringing others on journey with you.

Managing at an operational level; you will develop work plans, mentor staff, and successfully manage the end to end organisational outcomes. You will have experience in translating vision and concepts from strategic to operational plans.  Your cultural competency will see you transcending all levels of the Trust and its stakeholders with ease and through your ability to role model superior leadership; you will be able to bring people together toward shared outcomes.

With sustained growth expected across many areas, it is expected that you will be able to demonstrate strong, generalist financial and business acumen, and possess the skill set to navigate different viewpoints.  With the demonstrated ability as a people influencer, leader, and trusted advisor, you will display proven relationship management and expert communication skills.

Skills and experience for application are to include;

  • A working knowledge of Te Reo me ōna tikanga Māori.
  • Superior people leadership and management experience.
  • Experience in the development of annual budgets, forecasting and risk analysis.
  • Strong written communication skills, ability to develop detailed reports and the confidence to act as public speaker on behalf of the Trust.
  • The demonstrated experience to translate plans and strategy into operational frameworks.
  • Skilled at leading and creating a strong and aligned organisational culture.
  • Excellent communication, the skills to build rapport and to build strong stakeholder relationships.

Working knowledge of the New Zealand Resource Management Act (RMA) and relevant tertiary qualification would be highly regarded, although these not prerequisite to application.  Securing and deploying resources effectively and efficiently, you will draw on your experience as an operational manager.  Knowing when to “flex” one opposing capability over another to achieve the right outcome, you will actively and optimistically pursue new opportunities in liaison with the Board.

Supporting, enhancing, and raising awareness of Taiao Kaitiakitanga and tikanga, you will set about promoting and further enhancing effective relationships.  Your ability to establish networks and positive influence within the local community, will support you as you sustain and nurture key, core relationships with broad external stakeholder groups.
