The ARPHS Environmental Health (EH) Team endeavours to protect and promote the health and wellbeing of all Aucklanders from environmental hazards and risks across the region. This includes the public health risk identification, assessment and management as well as advice and analysis of environmental health issues. The team are passionate and committed about making a difference to the health and wellbeing in Tāmaki Makaurau
Two exciting opportunities have arisen to join the EH Team as Health Protection Officer/Technical Officers (HPO/TO). This is a role where you really get to protect and promote public health as you work to ensure public health risks are identified and managed and public health concerns are investigated and enforce public health legislation. Evidence based public health advice is a must as well as utilising and maintaining effective monitoring and surveillance systems to support public health interventions. You will become a ‘go to person’ for delivering expertise across topics such as notifiable disease, drinking water, hazardous substances; biosecurity and quarantine and much more.
You will also be encouraged to undertake professional development as you grow in the team.

Key criteria for success:
- Preference for a designated Health Protection Officer with drinking water and disease investigation experience
- Completed Bachelor of Applied Science (Health Protection) or Completed Bachelor of Health Science (Environmental Health)
- Partial or completed Graduate Diploma Environmental Health for those holding a Science Degree
- Full and current Drivers Licence
- Knowledge and experience of risk assessment processes, particularly in the field of public health
- Specific knowledge of RMA processes, enteric disease and biosecurity
- Computer literate as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills
