Engagement Manager – Kaiarataki Tuia Tāngata

Reporting to the Director of Engagement and Maori Responsiveness, this key leadership role is responsible for shaping the design, development and delivery of engagement and communication strategies that strengthen the connection with our stakeholders. You will be key in managing risk and promoting the positive work that council does that leads to an enhanced brand and reputation. You’ll be across all things engagement and communication, such as strategy, risk and crisis management, digital and online media, engagement and consultation and you’ll work closely with our Māori Responsiveness Team to support our connections with hapu, iwi and mana whenua. Within this role, you’ll be managing an experienced and motivated team who will provide a wealth of creative knowledge to achieve extraordinary outcomes.

To hit the ground running you’ll need:

  • At least 7 years relevant experience in an engagement and communications role with some of this in local government (or similar environment).
  • An understanding of the fundamentals of excellent engagement.
  • Proven experience of working with tangata whenua through establishment of relationships that are progressive.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification e.g. communications / marketing / public relations / journalism.
  • A full NZ driver’s licence.
  • Demonstrated experience of leading high performing teams.
  • Excellent communications skills.

You must have a basic knowledge of working with tangata whenua as a prerequisite for this role or at least a willingness to learn.
