The Equity Office – Te Ara Tautika leads the University’s commitment to being a safe, inclusive and equitable place to study and work. It has strong relationships with the Offices of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Māori and the Pro Vice-Chancellor Pacific, and plays a key role in supporting the University’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity objectives.

Student Disability Services (SDS) leads the Equity Office contribution to creating a safe, inclusive and equitable educational environment for students with disabilities.

The role

An opportunity has emerged for a part-time (0.5 FTE) Disability Adviser to join our busy Student Disability Services team within the Equity Office at the University of Auckland.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small, passionate team in a vibrant and professionally challenging environment, working to contribute to creating an inclusive educational environment for students with disabilities at the University of Auckland.

Skills and Experience

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Have a relevant tertiary qualification, and/or bring extensive experience and practical training to the role.
  • Bring experience working in the disability sector and/or providing advice and support to people with disabilities is essential.
  • Enjoy working collaboratively and be skilled in communicating with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Be able to work independently, have strong resilience, excellent written and verbal communications skills, attention to detail combined with sound judgment skills and a strong focus on achieving solutions.

Other attributes include:

  • Proven experience and ability to assess complex needs, and to identify, and secure, specific and appropriate resources and strategies to reasonably meet those needs
  • Experience in case management
  • Formal registration as a health professional is highly desirable
  • Experience of working in a cross-cultural environment would be an advantage
