You will be part of a team that is providing specialist public health advice and leadership to the sector and supporting the team that is maintaining operational oversight of the evolving COVID-19 outbreak and other communicable disease outbreaks. You will have strong networks across the public health community and will work in close collaboration with your public health colleagues, within the group, across the Ministry and the sector to provide both tactical and strategic advice for the response with a mind for the future.

The Public Health Operations Group provides strategic leadership and coordination at a national level across the evolving public health sector. This includes an increasing role for national oversight and direction that will ensure responses achieve equitable outcomes and reaches people and communities most at risk.
Te whainga poto o tēnei tūranga – What is the purpose of this position?
This is a new role in a relatively new team. The work will be varied, fast paced, and aims to have a lasting impact on New Zealand’s public health system. You will bring your experience as a Medical Officer of Health to provide national operational leadership and direction. You will be drawing together your knowledge and experience in coordinating and directing public health efforts to deliver better health outcomes. You will be part of the team that is planning and setting the future direction for the COVID-19 public health response and operational response to other communicable disease outbreaks of national significance.
Pulling on your practical experience you will support and guild the group as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will input and may lead the development of guidance and national processes that further nationally align public health operating models and processes.
You will work in collaboration with other across the Directorate, the Ministry and Health NZ to ensure that the collective response is joined up and seek to ensure that value gained during the COVID-19 response are brought forward into other aspects of public health.
Ngā Pūkenga me ngā Wheako – Skills and experience
You will bring the following to the role:
- Grounded and extensive experience as a Medical Officer of Health
- Excellent relationships skills and have the knowledge and experience to work with a wide range of people
- Experience within the COVID-19 response is an advantage as is experience with other communicable disease
- Proven ability to function strategically while maintaining the ability to ground this in practical operations
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to adapt technical information for different end users
- A strong understanding and application of equity and demonstrable ability to apply the Treaty of Waitangi in operational policy

This position has a salary range of $170,000.00 and $220,000.00. The offered salary will be based on skills and experience.
