The Ministry of Education is leading a review of NCEA – and we’re looking for savvy, sharp policy minds to support a new, innovative and dynamic policy process to ensure NCEA delivers equity and excellence for every young New Zealander.
The NCEA review is being led by a programme team within the Secondary Tertiary team, which sits within the Ministry of Education’s Early Learning and Student Achievement group.
The Early Learning and Student Achievement Group sets the system-level learning for every child and student. Working between policy and customer facing functions, there is a significant political, stakeholder and public interest in the high performance of this group and the education curriculum and teaching workforce outcomes we seek for New Zealand.
The NCEA review programme team is responsible for end-to-end delivery of the NCEA review, working alongside other parts of the Ministry, other education agencies, the NCEA Review Ministerial Advisory Group, and the wider education sector.
This role is part of a new analysis and evidence unit within the programme team, which will focus on delivering an iterative, innovative, and collaborative approach to analysis, combining authentic sector collaboration and co-design with sophisticated advice and policy thinking.
The Chief Advisor is responsible for leading the analysis and evidence unit, and providing high quality, strategic advice and thought leadership to the Group Manager, Senior Manager and Advisors on senior secondary curriculum and assessment – with the goal of improving the educational outcomes of all learners, and supporting the government’s overall education strategy.
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone sharp and dynamic with a sound strategic mind, who is comfortable leading in a fast-moving environment and taking innovative approaches to analysis and evidence work.
Our ideal candidate will be:
- savvy and agile, adept at handling ambiguity and complexity
- an effective leader, able to support a small team to successfully deliver an ambitious programme of work to a high standard
- an innovative thought-leader comfortable thinking strategically
Experience and qualifications
We’re looking for a candidate with experience that shows they have the above capabilities, and that they will be able to hit the ground running in this role. The role doesn’t have any qualification or experience requirements, but it would be advantageous if candidates had:
- a tertiary qualification in a field which privileges critical thinking and clear communication
- a background in strategy, policy or operational policy
- leadership experience.
