Auckland’s Tūpuna Maunga (ancestral mountains) hold a paramount place in the historical, spiritual, ancestral and cultural identity of the 13 iwi and hapū of Ngā Mana Whenua o Tāmaki Makaurau. The Tūpuna Maunga are at the heart of Auckland’s identity and represent a celebration of our Māori identity as the city’s point of difference in the world.

Our purpose is to protect and manage the Tūpuna Maunga and enhance these significant cultural and natural heritage sites. The Tūpuna Maunga offer a range of opportunities for Aucklanders to interact with these landscapes through visits, events, educational activities and recreation.

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

As Capital Works Delivery Coordinator you’ll have the opportunity to lead the delivery of a number of significant visitor infrastructure projects on the Tūpuna Maunga. These include track upgrades, cultural restoration projects, signage and interpretation.  You’ll be specifically responsible for:

  • Managing a range of capital works projects from procurement through to completion
  • Supporting the Engineer to Contract specific projects
  • Managing subject matter experts, consultants, project advisors and contractors to ensure the timely delivery of projects
  • Contribute advice and ideas to conceptual and detailed designs for tracks, signage, and restoration projects
  • Reporting progress, risk and issues to the Tūpuna Maunga Manager
  • Working as part of a team that enhances visitor infrastructure, services and protects our maunga

We’re looking for an individual with a real passion for managing capital projects that protect the values of the Tūpuna Maunga.

He kōrero mōu: About you

An innovative thinker and problem solver, you’ll need to have proven stakeholder engagement experience, and excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills. You’ll hold a relevant tertiary level qualification in project management or in parks management, and a relevant health and safety qualification.  You’ll have an eye for detail and the ability to ensure that project advisors, consultants and contractors deliver a high-quality product on time, every time.

With substantial experience in visitor infrastructure projects on highly sensitive heritage sites, you’ll have knowledge of current legislation and consenting requirements for conservation and heritage within Auckland.  You’ll bring a background in project management, contract management and working on visitor infrastructure projects, and competence in Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori would be highly regarded.

This is a permanent role for up to 40 hours per week. For the right person we’re flexible in terms of whether this role is part time or full time. We’re happy for this role to be between 25 and 40 hours per week.
