The AgResearch Mātai Ahuwhenua team works closely with the Māori Agribusiness sector. Recognising sector partners are distinctive because their whakapapa, values and ownership structures, this team and its intent is based on shared-principles; Whakapapa, Rangatiratanga, Kaitiakitanga, Whanaungatanga and Manaakitanga. They are passionate about ensuring Māori land owners maximise their land usage and enhance opportunities through embracing the newest agricultural innovation, thus providing long term sustainability for generations to prosper and profit.
As an Account Manager, you will work in partnership with AgResearch scientists and effectively manage and enhance relationships with external stakeholders. You will develop profitable projects that create value both for the sector and for Aotearoa. Your role will involve developing new relationships and identifying opportunities for the sector within your portfolio, whilst providing stakeholder and market intelligence to the science teams.
The primary objective is to build and maintain strong and positive relationships with agreed stakeholders in the Māori agribusiness sector. Working with science teams to understand the needs of Māori agribusinesses and assist delivery of the appropriate R&D initiatives to create impact and support the growth of Māori Agribusinesses.
You will deliver advice via a bi-cultural lens and align mātauranga Māori competency to your mahi. Reporting to the Sector Manager – Māori Agribusiness, you will be tasked with seeking out and developing new relationships and opportunities, whilst providing stakeholder and market intelligence to the science team. Understanding stakeholder needs, you will connect them with the most appropriate science expertise and be accountable for developing and delivering specific stakeholder revenue targets in line with the organisational business plan.
You will have accountability for the delivery of new business, cross pollinating from an existing client base, whilst providing a sustainable pipeline of future business opportunities. Operationally hands on, yet with strategic elements, you’ll prospect for new business tailoring solution specific outcomes.
Having the ability to apply Te Reo me ona tikanga Māori, your high cultural competency will see you in a key relationship position with iwi and hapū as well as a large range of internal and external stakeholders. Well-developed networks, credibility and relationships with iwi and Māori organisations, will further support you to build and maintain strong and positive relationships with the Māori agribusiness sector.
The ideal applicant will be able to demonstrate:
- 5 years + experience in a BDM or sales position.
- Skills/exposure working within a technical, agribusiness or science-based organisation.
- A high-level competency in Te Reo me ona tikanga Māori.
- Proficiency in project management and strategic planning.
- Demonstrated solution selling, rather than product selling experience.
- Proven experience in working to operational targets – and the skills to drive sustainable growth.
- Strong planning and organisational skills.
- Proven experience in influencing the growth of sectors with strong business development skills.
You’ll be highly independent, and self-managing, spending time in the field and face to face with prospects. Over time you will become a subject matter expert by working collaboratively with scientists; with the skill to translate technical speak into lay terms. In addition, you will need to track, plan and action your strategy well, and be able to juggle multiple clients’ expectations and meet agreed timelines.
