EXPERIENCED FARM MANAGER – SHEEP AND CATTLE

We are seeking to attract an experienced farm manager for a 10,000-acre farm (4500 acres of pastoral lands).

Running 3000 Romney ewes and 250 head of mainly Hereford cattle, we acknowledge that you will need to be highly capable and well skilled in NZ farming practices. Highly independent with a ‘number 8 fence wire’ attitude, your knowledge of pastoral care, stock rotation and the commercial aspects of farming will be paramount to your success. Overseeing the day to day management of the farm, you’ll enjoy being hands on, be able to attend to maintenance, upkeep and have experience with farm administration.

Responsible for meeting farm goals, including all aspects of stock, environmental and management, you will be cognisant of the budgeting process and be able to develop, implement and monitor farm plans for livestock health, breeding and benchmark stock performance. Prerequisite to successful application is your ability to bring with you your own working dogs.

A competitive salary, housing, vehicle and relocation costs will be offered as part of the remuneration package. The farm has an existing farm labourer living on the property.  A lovely local primary school is available in Kaingaroa community where you will be living. The successful applicant could start in early 2020 or as soon as possible after that date.

EXPERIENCED NURSERY MANAGER

As a qualified nursery manager, you will be responsible for the islands nursery that was established in 2010 with the vision to re-establish native forests back onto the bare Island landscape. It’s an ambitious project you’ll be joining, and as such you will have a bedrock of education or experience in horticulture, agriculture, or botany.

Planting, growing, harvesting, and transplanting trees, shrubs and plants; you’ll be hands on and able to roll up your sleeves as required.  Determining optimal growing conditions for each plant, you will be able to evaluate landscape, soil type, drainage, and other factors that affect growth.

You will be part of re-cloaking the Island in native and other trees – this is very much a position of legacy, leaving your handprint on these unique islands. With a renewed interest in carbon offset farming, and a huge demand for planting, this is a highly varied, challenging and unique experience.

Skilled in the identification of such growing issues as; diseases, wildlife damage, insects and weeds, you will have sound knowledge of practices to support and protect the health of your stock – from seedling to maturity.

Rēkohu and Rangihaute, and associated Islands have high environmental values, and are vulnerable and contain many rare and endangered species, it is our intent to work with those who share the vision to maintain and enhance conservation initiatives on the Islands.

Both positions offer a competitive salary, accommodation, vehicle and relocation costs (if required) will be offered as part of the remuneration package.
