Department of Marketing, Advertising, Retailing, and Sales

AUT Business School

Faculty of Business and Law

The Department of Marketing, Advertising, Retailing, and Sales has created a new Professor of Marketing position and is now seeking qualified candidates to apply. We are seeking a person to take a leadership role in further developing a core strength in research and teaching that we have identified within the department, around shopper behaviour, consumer psychology, and customer responses to marketing stimuli. Candidates from the fields of consumer behaviour, retailing, behavioural or cognitive psychology, or advertising, are particularly encouraged to apply, but we welcome applications from all relevant fields.

The new Professor of Marketing will work closely with the Head of Department, Professor Andrew Parsons, in developing excellence in research, teaching, and engagement for this core area. The department is part of the AUT School of Business, which is AACSB accredited, and the Faculty of Business and Law at Auckland University of Technology. We have 16 full time research active staff, who are all regularly publishing in quality journals, and 4 FTE professional staff actively engaged with industry and teaching. We also have a regular visitor series, hosting internationally recognised academics for short periods. From 2014 we are the home of the Australasian Marketing Journal with Professor Roger Marshall as the editor. The department also employs approximately 16 teaching assistants each semester (PhD and Masters students). We are a very collegial department, with a common focus on developing excellence in our research whilst maintaining our already high quality teaching and industry engagement.

Department faculty teach in the BBus, BBus (Hons), MBus, MBA, MPhil, and PhD programs, where we offer majors or specialisations in each of our four disciplines. The PhD program is the ‘British’ system – thesis only. From 2014 we will also be offering a conversion masters in marketing. We are located on a downtown campus and have excellent connections with industry for research and teaching. Auckland City is New Zealand’s largest city and offers a great deal of multi-cultural diversity. Auckland City is regularly ranked as one of the world’s most liveable cities.

Please direct any enquiries to Professor Andrew Parsons emailing here.

AUT University is an EEO employer, we are committed to the Treaty of Waitangi and to equity. AUT aspires to be the University of choice for Māori and Pasifika communities. AUT is a smoke free environment.
